Henry Corfield, Age 38

Private, 23640, 7^th Battalion, King's Shropshire Light Infantry.

Henry was the son of Eunice Griffiths of 25, Crown Yard, Little Dawley, but had been born at Hinkshay. Henry was mobilized on the 20^th/21^st March 1916 and joined the 7^th KSLI on the western front in mid June of that year.

Henry died of wounds on the 22^nd August 1916 probably from wounds received at either Maltz Horn farm on Aug 18^th or the taking of Lonely trench on the 19^th August.

Henry is buried in the Corbie Communal Cemetery in Plot 2. Row B. Grave 102. A memorial service was held for him at St Luke's, Doseley on November 19^th that year.

Extra Notes:
Henry’s age is incorrect as he was born in 1884 and Christened 20^th Apr 1884, his father was John Henry Corfield who marred Eunice (maiden name Follows) in 1882, Henry’s father died and was buried at Dawley on the 18^th Sep 1884, which left Eunice with Henry as a 6-month-old baby his sister Ethel age 1 and pregnant with his brother Edward.

In the 1891 census Eunice and her Daughter Ethel and son Edward are living with her brother George Follows, at 43 High Street, Dawley, he was a shoe maker and Eunice worked in his shop as an assistant, but Henry (been called Harry on the census) is living with his Granddad Jairus Follows at 407, Ladies' Row, Hinkshay, Dawley.

Eunice remarried on the 10th Nov 1891 at Holy Trinity, Dawley, to John Griffiths, Henry lived with his mother and stepfather at Little Dawley an till his enlistment at Ironbridge.
